I became a Reiki Master in March 2019 and practiced Reiki from my home and at a local esoteric shop for several years. Still, it took a while to truly feel the energy moving during a session, which I think is a common experience among most Reiki masters and practitioners.
Still, little by little, I did feel the energy, not just in my hands but moving through me, often causing spontaneous yawning when a lot of energy was being moved. However, I was not able to clearly determine whether a chakra was actually opened or closed, but I decided not to let that preoccupy my mind and just stick with performing the service.
One of my clients, who is also a Reiki master, shared her experience using a pendulum over each chakra to determine whether each was open or closed. In the past, I had tried using a pendulum to seek answers to questions, but I found it inconsistent and unreliable. I appreciated her suggestion to try the pendulum again, this time to assess chakra energy. So I began using the pendulum to evaluate the condition of each chakra both before and after our sessions.
I was instantly surprised to see immediate results. I would use the pendulum to read each chakra before the session, inform the client of what I found, and then note its condition on the worksheet I created to mark the before-and-after condition for each client.
What first seemed odd or indirectly helpful was that after finishing the session and doing the second pendulum reading, a few still appeared closed, so I would work on them again, and the next reading showed they were open. I adjusted my Reiki methods to help ensure all would be open in the first pass, but no matter what I did, two always still showed closed.
That's when I realized this wasn't the client's actual condition; it was a message for me to pass along. Spirit was telling me to let the client know that those two chakras could use extra support and that the client should work with them between Reiki sessions. To do this, I added a few minutes to the end of the session to explain to the client which two chakras they should work on in the meantime.
The immediate problem with asking a client to work on their own chakras was that most had no idea where to begin, so I developed kits that contained instructions, crystals, and essential oils they could take home, tailored to the chakras that needed attention. This led to my very first iteration of laminated chakra cards, which later grew into my deck of Chakra Healing Cards.

Then COVID hit, and the sessions were Zoom-only, so I thought I would take advantage of the fact that we were going to spend the better part of an hour together online and that people were stuck at home. I thought this might be an opportunity to explain chakra healing in more depth, so I created a PDF workbook to accompany the session and extended the session to 90 minutes to make sure we had time for discussion... and crickets.
We have all had great ideas that nobody else thought were great, and this was one of those circumstances. I had increased the fee to accommodate the additional time, and that's when I realized the internet was being flooded with Reiki practitioners and that prices appeared to be falling as more and more people were doing it. That is a great thing, but it was not my desire to compete, but to be truly helpful.
Months passed without a single session, and that's when I decided to set aside Reiki sessions for a short while and focus on helping people experience the healer within them by enhancing my products to deliver an even deeper level of healing work.
I started this process with a major revision of my Chakra Healing Cards. I added a more detailed meditation for each chakra, improved the affirmations, added several cards, created supportive web pages, and produced a booklet that provides a deeper understanding of the chakras and how to use the cards, available as an optional PDF download.
After all that, I added a special link to one of the cards to register for a Complimentary Chakra Clearing that I would perform remotely online, where I would then create and send a PDF report identifying which two chakras needed the most attention and provide copies of my cards to guide this self-work.
At that time, I began keeping a separate, anonymous record of the two chakras identified in each assessment, without including names or any other personal information. I didn't have a specific plan for what I would do with the data, but I thought it might be helpful in the future.
Now, after having conducted almost 250 of these chakra-clearing sessions online, I believe there is enough data to make sharing it helpful. As you will see in the chart below, the Solar Plexus and Root Chakras are the chakras most often suggested for work, followed closely by the Sacral and Heart Chakras.
Most Common Chakras Needing Work
| Chakra | Count | Percent |
|---|---|---|
| Solar Plexus Chakra | 83 | 17.4% |
| Root Chakra | 83 | 17.4% |
| Sacral Chakra | 79 | 16.5% |
| Heart Chakra | 76 | 15.9% |
| Throat Chakra | 70 | 14.6% |
| Third Eye Chakra | 45 | 9.4% |
| Crown Chakra | 42 | 8.8% |
- Chakra: Chakras needing work ordered from highest to lowest
- Count: The number of people with that chakra recommendation
- Percentage: The percentage of times that chakra was selected overall
This data does not mean those chakras were opened or closed; it represents the chakras that Spirit suggested be worked on the most. You will see the Crown Chakra has the lowest number, but this doesn't mean most people's Crown Chakra is in great shape. It simply suggests that the other chakras need more attention right now.
For example, a fully open Crown Chakra can be almost detrimental if the Root and Sacral Chakras are closed, because you would likely experience spiritual escapism, losing your connection to Earth, with your head literally in the clouds as you focus only on connecting with God. As grand an effort as that may be, we are not here to escape, but to experience, learn, and overcome the need to return.
If a person's circumstances are such that the Root, Sacral, Solar Plexus, Third Eye, and Crown Chakras all need attention, that can be overwhelming to resolve, but selecting just two is possible and doable. It appears the lower chakras will always be Spirit's first focus, since it is very helpful to feel secure, stable, and standing in our own power so that later, we can more effectively work on the energies of the higher chakras as well.
Most Common Chakra Pairings
- Root and Solar Plexus Chakras
- Sacral and Heart Chakras
- Solar Plexus and Root Chakras
- Heart and Sacral Chakras
- Throat and Solar Plexus Chakras
- Third Eye and Solar Plexus Chakras
- Crown and Throat Chakras
As you can see from these pairings, the Solar Plexus Chakra appears often. This makes sense because it is closely connected to confidence, self-worth, personal strength, and our ability to make decisions and move forward.
So, what can you do with this information?
Without a personal chakra assessment, you may not know exactly which two chakras would be most helpful to focus on. However, these findings can give you a practical starting point. You might begin with one of the chakras that appeared most often—such as the Root, Sacral, or Solar Plexus Chakra—and then choose a second chakra based on what is happening in your life.
For example, if you feel insecure, unsettled, or worried about your basic needs, you might begin with the Root Chakra. If you are also struggling with confidence, boundaries, or decision-making, you could pair it with the Solar Plexus Chakra.
If you feel emotionally blocked, disconnected from joy, or creatively stuck, the Sacral Chakra may need support. Since issues with that chakra are often associated with the Heart Chakra as well, consider working on that chakra as well to help with issues related to grief, forgiveness, loneliness, or difficulty giving and receiving love.
The data provided above, especially the common chakra pairings, can help you focus in a way you may not have seen before, but that you very much need. This data is not meant to choose your path for you. It simply offers a place to begin when you are unsure. Combine these patterns with your own intuition and remain open to changing direction as your needs change.
I realize this was a lengthy article to cover the topic in the title, but I did want to help you better accept the findings I was providing by showing the path that led to them. And yes, of course, you can work on any chakra at any time. This article's purpose is to help you refine your direction, not to make it for you. You are the healer you have been looking for, and the more you trust your own intuition, the greater your capacity will be to overcome the issues that arise.
In my most recent version of my cards, I removed the link to the Complimentary Chakra Clearing and Report because I was working on an improved version of that session and adding even more options to choose from.

Start the Self-Guided Reflection
The biggest change is the creation of the Self-Guided Chakra Reflection and Report option. This uses an algorithm that assesses potential chakra issues based on the answers you provided to a set of carefully constructed questions. It is not necessarily Spirit-led; however, you are prompted to allow your answers to be guided. Either way, the results can very closely indicate which chakras are in the greatest need of your attention, and there is no need to wait.
There is a healer within you. I believe that my Chakra Healing Cards and associated chakra healing products and services will help you better access and experience that aspect of yourself. I am here only to be truly helpful. I may not always succeed, but my intention is genuine.
Your feedback on any of the chakra clearing services will be appreciated. We all grow by sharing, so be sure to share with me how something may or may not have been helpful, how it may or may not have been difficult to do, and I will likely consider those ideas in the next revision of my products and services.
